UnitingCare Australia welcomes historic disability legislation

UnitingCare Australia has welcomed the passage of the Government’s historic National Disability Insurance Scheme
through the Parliament this week and calls on the states and territories to fund their share of the scheme.
National Director, Lin Hatfield Dodds said the NDIS promises to provide tailored supports to meet the individual needs
and aspirations of people with disability and, critically, to double the current levels of funding to meet those needs.

Major Church Providers: People with disability deserve a 'fair go'

Australia’s Major Church Providers say that changes to eligibility for the Disability Support Pension will see a large number of people with disability relegated to live on $34 a day because the labour market is not ready and able to employ them.

Productivity Commission Report a welcome start for Disability Care and Support

UnitingCare Australia welcomes the release today of the Productivity Commission’s final report into disability care and support and the Prime Minister’s endorsement of a National Disability Insurance Scheme. Commenting shortly after the release of the report National Director, Lin Hatfield Dodds said: "Together with the aged care announcement earlier this week, these reforms signal that the Federal Government is stepping up to the social challenges of our time.

National Disability Insurance Scheme will change lives

UnitingCare Australia’s National Director, Lin Hatfield Dodds said if implemented, the recommendations in the Productivity Commission’s draft report on disability care and support will change lives. Speaking shortly after the report’s release today, Ms Hatfield Dodds, said up until now funding, and therefore care arrangements, have been an inadequately funded, poorly targeted bag of ad hoc arrangements that have focussed more on available services than the needs of individuals.

UnitingCare Australia Backs Call for National Disability Insurance Scheme

Dr Rhonda Galbally AO, Chair of the National People with Disabilities and Carer Council for Australia, has called on the Australian Government to work with State and Territory Governments to establish a no fault Disability Insurance Scheme.
